Intro to Whitewater, Lower Slippery Rock (Class 2)

  • Columbus Paddling Club Columbus, Ohio 43202 USA (map)

This introductory whitewater trip will be suitable for beginning paddlers who have learned basic paddle strokes and are comfortable maneuvering a whitewater kayak in a flatwater setting. Paddlers should also be comfortable with a wet exit. An eskimo roll is not necessary for this trip.  Paddlers should have proper whitewater gear, including an appropriate kayak with floatation, spray skirt, helmet, PFD, and paddle.

Weather and water conditions are unknown at this time.  Paddlers should be prepared for both cold water and cold weather.  We will work with you to make sure you have the proper attire.  Please let us know if you have any questions or may need to borrow something warmer.

We plan to paddle the Lower Slip (Class 2) run in PA unless river level is too high, at which time we may move locations or postpone.

We will work with beginning paddlers on basic whitewater maneuvering, including eddy turns, ferrying and peel outs.  We will discuss basic whitewater knowledge including equipment, safety, river reading, and communication topics.

Group camping at Breakneck Campground.
