Whitewater Skills Day

  • Columbus Paddling Club Columbus, Ohio 43202 USA (map)

This trip is for beginner and novice paddlers who want to learn and/or practice whitewater skills. An eskimo roll is not required.

We plan to review an array of whitewater kayaking skills, including boat handling, ferries, crossing eddy lines, and river reading. We also plan to have discussion on how to prepare for the river, clothing and gear, river communication, and more. This is a good opportunity to take that first step in learning, or to fine tune your skills with a mentor in preparation for some Class 2/3 trips this year.

The location of the trip is TBD. The likely location is on the Mad River in Dayton to make use of the playpark features. If by chance the Rocky Fork or Olentangy are running at an acceptable level, we may switch to those rivers. We will make that determination a couple days in advance.

If interested, please contact Karen Reinhart at kreinhart510@gmail.com or 614-288-9658. We will pass on further details in the days leading up to the trip once we know water levels. Weather forecast is looking superb!
