Intro to Moving Water Clinic - Saturday, May 28th

Organizer: Mike Wadkowski

Now that you are comfortable in your boat and can go straight when you want and turn right or left but might be uncertain about nuances of currents and avoiding obstacles, this is the class for you.  We will be emphasizing a defensive approach to river running with instruction on peel-outs, ferrying, and some playing.  Since the emphasis will be on understanding river features, this class is appropriate for canoes, kayaks, and even SUP boards.

We’ll start the day with a short discussion on concepts that we’ll practice once on the water.  We’ll be paddling an easier stretch of the Kokosing River near Gambier that offers plenty of river features for practice. Expect to spend time at these features instead of just blasting down the river.

Bring a lunch, sunscreen, and plenty of water.  PFD’s/lifejackets will be required. Helmets are recommended for kayakers.  If the weather is marginal we’ll probably still paddle.  If it looks horrendous or unsafe we’ll keep Sunday as a back up plan.
